One of our very beautiful female Carpet Sharks has laid a truly unusual number of eggs. Over the last month she has produced 8 new offspring and may still lay more!
When laying the first egg, she did something we've never seen happen before. She first released the thread-like tendrils that are attached to the egg case and then swam around and around our small colony of "Sea Tulips" pulling the egg out of her body and lashing the egg to the Tulips' stalks. Two days later she repeated this behaviour with another egg. A week latershe tried to do the same thing with two other eggs, but there wasn't any more room on the Tulips' stalks so she left them on the bottom of the tank.
